Solar power and its benefits in decentralised applications
With the term "solar power" we as DWC understand electricity production to power decentralised applications such as
- Solar Home Systems
- Solar Light Systems
- Solar Water systems
- Solar ....
The following infos should give you a good overview what we exactly mean by this...
Solar light system (Pico PV System)
In May 2012 we have trained the head of a local Ethiopian NGO here in Germany in the basics of solar light systems.
Background: Even in the capital of Ethiopia Addis Abeba there are frequent power outages. Local people have therefore been forced to purchase back up systems such as candles, torches, etc. With the arrival of affordable, plug and play, Pico PV Systems such as solar powered light systems things are changing for the good.
Local people have now their own light bulbs with integrated Lithium Ion battery (and charge controller!) with high efficient LEDs available charged by fluctuating grid power as a back up light system. By charging them with their own micro solar panel they can reduce power consumption or grid reliance and therefore costs altogether.
Thanks to the generosity of different donors some samples are on their way to Ethiopia and we hope to see pics of the actual use and the feedback of local acceptance.
Training of Nigerian Expert on PV used for water desalination
In April 2012 we have had some friends from Nigeria here in Germany. They took this opportunity to get an insde of the latest technology of solar powered water purification incl. solar powered water desalination using Reverse Osmosis membranes.
The pictures show a plug and play solar powered energy source (6 solar panels on a frame with metal cabinet holding professional solar batteries, charge controllers and inverter) for simply connecting a 230WAC plug from the water purification system into the power system.
