"Kopsch-Tower" still performing under cyclone conditions in Ethiopia Mittwoch, 8. August 2012
In 2011 we have installed the "Kopsch-Tower" in rural Ethiopia. (Actually it is a civil engineered tower that hosts a number of flexible features such as raw water tank, desalination system, energy storage and control system as well as drinking water hoding tanks and wind power production - bascially an autonomous system that is producing power and drinking water. Since this is difficult to fully understand for local people and to name they have simply called it "Kopsch-Tower").

We are in ongoing contact with local players about the system and received the following comment:

"On a different note, Sister told me that a cyclone struck Semera very recently and caused much damage. Thankfully, only the supporting pipe of the wind turbine was twisted, but there was no damage to the desalination equipment or to the structure itself. Thankfully, too, the two tanks on the water tower had a lot of water in them, even if people have been going regularly to fill up. That kept them from blowing over.

The strong winds ripped the roof of the store, blew down substantial parts of the fence and twisted the concrete pillars of the fence. Many roof top installations (tanks, satellite dishes, etc) on private and public buildings flew away... Gates collapsed and dust penetrated everywhere. People in Semera say this is the first time in living memory that any such thing has happened. "
