| 2 years of waste water treatment in Kuweit using constructed wetlands | jueves, 5. mayo 2011 |
| After 2 and a half years of operating a constructed wetland for treating urban waste water, a German engineer and designer having been in Kuweit for checking, just came back to Germany. His comment: Just perfect!! System works smooth, local people are happy. Learning by doing. The Kuweitis are clever people. They heard about the concept of using constructed wetlands in order to treat urban waste water in a clustered approach (using only waste water streams from different blocks thereby avoiding distribution losses and costs). So they thought lets do it here in Kuweit see what happens. After detailed study and local visits by German engineers the local people only found out and fully understood the underlying principles and how this system actually works really only during installation and implementation. Now the engineer has been invited to check the performance after 2 years of operation. The grass is always green, irrigated by the recylced waste water (the rest goes to ground water recharge), the wetland itself works as a recreation area or park for people and nature. No smell, noise or any other issues normally associated with waste water treatment. It even offers a cooler environment due to natural cooling and ventilation. |
